George Joseph Schmal

George J. Schmal, age 93, of North Mankato, died Thursday, March 12, 2009 at Hillcrest Health Care Center in Mankato.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 1:00 p.m. Monday, March 16, 2009 at S.S. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Mankato with Fr. Mariano Valera, IVE officiating. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery following the service at the church. Visitation will be from 11:30 a.m. until the time of service Monday at the church. In lieu of flowers memorials may be given to S.S. Peter and Paul Church or the Theresa House in Mankato. Mankato Mortuary is handling arrangements.

George Schmal was born September 9, 1915 in Gothenburg, Nebraska to George and Mary (Buttel) Schmal. George was united in marriage to Leona "Lee" Theis at St. John's Chrysostom Catholic Church in Inglewood, CA on November 4, 1950. He was a member of S.S. Peter and Paul Catholic Church.

George is survived by his wife, Lee; son, John Patrick Schmal of Santa Monica, CA; two daughters, Mary (Max) Warden of North Mankato, Kate (Michael) Podegracz of Apple Valley, CA; five grand-children, Joseph and Benjamin Podegracz, Andrew, Marissa and Jeremy Warden.

George was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers, and three sisters.
