James Carl Olson, age 73, of rural Mankato died Thursday, March 5, 2009 of an apparent heart attack at Immanuel St. Joseph's Hospital, Mankato.
Memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, March 10, 2009 at Mankato Mortuary. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, Mankato. Visitation will be one hour before service at the mortuary on Tuesday.
James was born September 26, 1935 to Samuel and Helen (Werner) Olson in Minnesota Lake. He was united in marriage to Beatrice "Bea" Lowe on April 24, 1958 at SS. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, Mankato. Bea died March 16, 2003. James had been employed by Mankato Stone Quarry and Schwickert's Roofing. He started his own business, J & R Roofing in 1980 and retired in 1998. James was a member of the National Rifle Association, North American Hunting Club and various other organizations. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, gardening, his yard, driving around to look at wildlife, watching the races on Sunday's at his son's home and spending time with his family.
James is survived by one daughter, Julie (Steve) St. Peter of Mankato; three sons, John (Deb) Olson, Mike (Tina) Olson, and Joe (Lori) Olson all of Mankato; twelve grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; two sisters, Dolores Engelen of Mankato and Dorothy (Kenneth) Anderson of Texas; brother, Ralph (Bonnie) Patterson of Washington; sister-in-law, Kay Daufenbach of Mankato; four brothers-in-law, Larry Lowe of St. Peter, Jeep (Diane) Lowe, of Kasota, Marty (Linda) Lowe, Bill (Jan) Lowe all of North Mankato; several nieces and nephews.
James was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Bea; son, Bernard; grandson, Jacob; three brothers; one sister.
