Lillian Irene Homolka, age 91, of Mankato died Wednesday, March 4, 2009, at Immanuel St. Joseph's Hospital, Mankato.

Funeral service will be held at 11:30 a.m. Saturday, March 7, 2009, at Mankato Mortuary. Burial will be in Woodland Hills Memorial Park, Mankato. Visitation will be one hour before the service on Saturday. Memorials may be given to the Larry Homolka '63 Scholarship, Grinnell College, Grinnell, Iowa, or donor's choice.

Lillian was born April 9, 1917, to John and Katherine (Kubis) Proksa in Chicago, IL. She graduated from J. Sterling Morton High School in Cicero, IL, in 1934. She was united in marriage to Joseph James Homolka on May 20, 1939, in Berwyn, IL. They moved from Illinois in 1942 when Joseph, who worked for Continental Can, was transferred for the start-up of the company's new plant in Mankato. He died on September 28, 1984. Lillian was a homemaker for her family, and for many years she volunteered at Oaklawn Health Care Center, Mankato. A past president of the Twilight Garden Club, Lillian loved flowers and gardening. She also enjoyed word games, crossword puzzles, and watching birds and animals in her yard.

Lillian is survived by her son, Donald Homolka, of Mankato; sister, Margaret Proksa, of Westchester, IL; brother, Irwin Proksa, and his wife, Agnes, of Hinsdale, IL; and nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Lillian was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Joseph; and a son, Larry.
