Sister Edna Nosbush, School Sister of Notre Dame, died Saturday, March 3, at Good Counsel Convent, Mankato, Minnesota, at age 89. The Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Wednesday, March 7, at 10:30 a.m. in Good Counsel Chapel with Father Peter Nosbush as celebrant. Visitation will be from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Tuesday at Good Counsel, with Vespers in the chapel at 7:00 p.m. Visitation is also one hour prior to the funeral on Wednesday. Mankato Mortuary is in charge.
Sister Edna (Rose Nosbush) was born in St. Leo, Minnesota, August 25, 1917, to Peter and Sophia (Eischens) Nosbush. She entered the School Sisters of Notre Dame in Mankato in 1933 and took First Vows in 1937. Having earned a B.S. in Education from Mount Mary College, Milwaukee, and an M.A. in Reading from Cardinal Stritch, Milwaukee, she did post-graduate work in Special Education at Mankato State University, all of which prepared her for over 50 years of teaching, first as primary grade teacher and then as teacher of special education. All her years of teaching were spent in Minnesota. In the Mankato area, she taught at SS. Peter & Paul Grade School, at the Good Counsel Learning Center, and in Mankato Public School District #77 in special education. She also taught at the Minnesota School for the Deaf in Faribault and at Laura Baker School in Northfield. Sister Edna retired at Good Counsel Convent in 2002.
Sister is survived by her brother Ambrose Nosbush of Fairfax and by her sisters in community, the School Sisters of Notre Dame. She was preceded in death by her parents, four sisters, Mary Nosbush, Sister M. Ancilla, Sister M. Lorraine, and Sister Mary Bertha, and by seven brothers, Otto, Joe, Alphonse, Wendelin, Lawrence, Ambrose, and Aloysius.
