Nellie Southwick

Nellie Southwick, age 94 of Mankato and formerly of Mapleton, died Wednesday, February 28, 2007 at Grandview Good Samaritan Heath Care Center in St. Peter.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m., Monday, March 5, 2007 at St. Theresa Catholic Church in Mapleton, with Rev. Tim Biren, officiating. Burial will be held in Oak Hill Cemetery at a later date. Visitation will be held one hour before the service on Monday at the church. Mankato Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.

Nellie was born May 27, 1912 to Amer and Nora (Dumbeck) McMahan in Beauford Township, Blue Earth County, Minnesota. She was united in marriage to George Southwick on February 27, 1929 in St. Paul, Minnesota. They farmed in the Mapleton and Montgomery area. Nellie also did elder care in her home. She enjoyed reading westerns, raising dogs and spending time with her family.

Nellie is survived by one son, Wayne (Lorraine) Southwick of Mankato; one daughter, Beverly Mills of Champlin, MN; 12 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; three sisters-in-laws, Clarissa Marx of Waseca, Marjorie Andrews of Pemberton, Pearl Southwick of Pemberton.

She was preceded in death by her husband, George in 1992; two daughters, Geraldine Schwichtenberg in 1994, and Patricia Holbrook in 2002; one brother, Lawrence McMahan in 1935; and two grandchildren.
