Devina May Anderson, age 37 of Mankato died Thursday, February 22, 2007 at her home after a courageous seven and half year battle with breast cancer.
Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, February 27, 2007 at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Mankato with Rev. Paul D. Nolting officiating. Visitation will be from 4-7 p.m. Monday at Mankato Mortuary and will continue one hour prior to the service at the church on Tuesday.
Devina was born August 25, 1969 to Mavis (Bartsch) and Wayne Anderson in Mankato. She attended Immanuel Lutheran Grade School and graduated from Mankato East High School in 1988. While in high school, she competed and received many awards in science fairs at Regional, State and International levels. She was a Grand Slam award recipient for four consecutive years at the International Science and Engineering Fair. During high school, she completed a six year science research, developing a natural pesticide. She also received the coveted Phillips Award. She participated in Science Symposium for the Minnesota Academy of Science and also the Jr. Minnesota Academy of Science by writing award winning research papers in environmental science. She graduated from Minnesota State University, Mankato with a Bachelor of Science Degree and also received a degree in Law Enforcement at the North Carolina Law Enforcement Academy. Additionally, she graduated with honors from the Paramedic Degree Program at South Central College in North Mankato.
Devina worked in Custer State Park and also in the National Park Service at Glacier, Yellowstone, Rocky Mountain, Tetons, and Saguaro as a Law Enforcement Ranger; Gold Cross as a paramedic; and at the Mayo Health Care Facility in Mankato.
She enjoyed hiking, camping, backpacking, beadwork and shopping.
She is survived by her parents, Mavis and Wayne Anderson of Mankato; sister, Dana and husband, Drew DeSantis of Pine Plains, NY; brother, Shane and wife, Loralee Anderson of Burnsville; two nephews, Dante and Devin both of Pine Plains, NY; and by her special dogs, Brutus, Harry and Mindy. Devina is also survived by many aunts, uncles, cousins, and special friends. Devina was preceded in death by her grandparents, Adolph and Lillian Bartsch.
