Roy Richard Eggestein, age 93, of Mankato died Tuesday, February 20, 2007 at his home.
Funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, February 24, 2007 at Centenary United Methodist Church in Mankato with Rev. Pam Serdar officiating. Graveside service will be 3 p.m. Saturday in Sunset Memorial Park in Jackson, MN. Visitation will be from 5-8 p.m., Friday at Mankato Mortuary and will continue one hour prior to the service at the church on Saturday. Memorials may be given to Immanuel St. Josephs Hospice.
Roy was born on December 10, 1913 to Harvey and Marie (Buchmann) Eggestein in Jackson County, MN. On October 24, 1932 Roy married Aldine Smith in Sioux Falls, SD. They lived in Jackson and in 1940 moved to Jeffers, MN. Roy operated a country grain elevator until 1967 when they moved to Mankato. Roy then worked for Honeymead until his retirement in 1977. He was a member of Centenary United Methodist Church in Mankato. Roy loved hunting and fishing and traveling in their camper. He also enjoyed boating and snowmobiling but in recent years he really enjoyed reading, playing cards and trips to the casino.
He is survived by a granddaughter, Marilyn Riley of Rochester; great-granddaughter, Erica Riley of Rochester; great-great-grandchildren, Matthew and Isabella; daughter-in-law, Doris (Don) Curry of Dothan, AL; niece and caregiver, Sandie (Ken) Riesgraf of Mankato; special friends, Myrtice and John London of Omaha, NE; two sisters, Grace (Don) Keir of Pioneer, CA, and Ethel Hayek of Jackson; and many nieces and nephews.
Roy was preceded in death by his parents; wife Aldine in 1991; son, Don Eggestein; great-grandson, Christopher Riley; brother, Clinton Eggestein.
