Elvy Christine Peterson, age 83 of Mankato, died Tuesday, February 13, 2007 at Hillcrest Health Care Center.
Memorial service will be 11:00 a.m. Saturday at Mankato Mortuary with one hour of visitation prior to the service. Burial of cremated remains will be in Sweden. Memorials are preferred to Grace Lutheran Church or to an organization of the donors choice.
Elvy was born December 8, 1923 in Aln, Sweden to Nels and Doffny (Backman) Peterson. She moved to the United States in 1929 and was a 1941 graduate of Star Lake High School in New York. She later moved to Mankato and worked as an executive secretary for the City Manager and Mayor from 1963 until she retired in 1989.
Elvy was a member of Grace Lutheran Church. She was a member since 1968 and a past-president of the Epsilon Sigma Alpha service sorority, a member and past-president of the Swedish Club, a member of the Venturettes (Business Womens Club), and was involved in the Red Hat Society at Hillcrest Health Care Center. Elvy enjoyed traveling and had traveled to Sweden six times. She also enjoyed playing golf and oil painting.
Survivors include her relatives in Sweden and her friends and family in Mankato. She was preceded in death by her father, Nels in 1960 and her mother, Doffny in 1977.
