Peter Gil Berens, age 76, of Mankato, died Monday, February 5, 2007 at Immanuel St. Josephs Hospital in Mankato.
Mass of Christian Burial will be 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, February 7, 2007 at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Mankato, with Rev. Brian Sutton officiating. Visitation will be two hours prior to the service at the church on Wednesday. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery in Cleveland at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to the Salvation Army or the Echo Food Shelf.
Peter Gilbert Berens was born August 6, 1930 in Billings, MT. He was the son of William and Margaret (Buchner) Berens. Gil was a 1949 graduate of Mankato High School. He was united in marriage to Geraldine Jerre Simonett on May 26, 1955 in Cleveland. Gil was employed in road construction and in building and land management. He was a member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Mankato.
Gil is survived by his wife, Jerre of Mankato; seven children, Molly (Rich) Christensen of Mankato, Meg (Bob) Oberle of LeSueur, Mike (Deb) Berens of St. Leonard, MD, Pat (Craig) Dumdei of Mankato, Kitty (Scott) Hickok of White Bear Lake, Jim Berens of New Richmond, WI, and Ann (Jim) Ferris of Excelsior; nineteen grandchildren; one great-grandson; one sister, Mary Berens of Mankato; also several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a son, Casey Berens.
