Larry John Weeks, age 53, of Mankato, died unexpectedly at home on Saturday, February 21st, 2009.
A Celebration of Life will be held at 11:00 a.m., Friday, February 27, 2009 at Belgrade Avenue United Methodist Church, 325 Sherman Street, North Mankato. A luncheon and an afternoon sharing of memories will follow. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred.
Larry was born in Rochester to Allen Roger and Virginia Ruth (Mortensen) Weeks. He lived in Rapid City, SD and graduated from Rapid City Stevens High School in 1973. Larry served in the Navy from 1974 to 1978, was honorably discharged as a Petty Officer 2nd Class having served on the USS Sommers. Larry was united in marriage to Marie "Ri" Ralston in 1979. He graduated from Mankato State University in 1981 with a B.S. degree in Accounting and Finance, and was a certified public accountant. He had worked for Rogers, Knutson & Co., Wolf, Etter & Co., and currently Eide Bailly LLP in Mankato, specializing in governmental and non-profit auditing.
Larry loved spending time puttering on the golf course, and in the garden both at home and the lake. He loved sports and fun times with his fantasy football guys. He enjoyed games, cards, and playing with his kitties, "our cat pack."
Larry is survived by his wife, Marie "Ri"; his siblings, Marilyn, Shari, Bruce, David; father-in-law, Howard; brother-in-law, Mike; sister-in-law, Michele and family, Jill, Nick and Carla; cousins, nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, great nieces and nephews.
Larry was preceded in death by his parents, his grandparents (paternal and maternal).
We would be remiss if we didn't extend acknowledgment for Larry's animal rescue effort over the years. He will be dearly missed by his beloved family and friends, and his family of kitties.
We thank Larry for a lifetime of smiles, laughter, hugs, and teaching us to love one another, and to play. We know he will enjoy the journey to the undiscovered country, and have many great stories to share when we meet there.
