Norbert William "Nibb" Meyers, age 87 of Mankato, died Thursday, February 12, 2009 at Immanuel " St. Joseph's Hospital in Mankato.
Funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m., Friday, February 20, 2009 at Christ the King Lutheran Church in Mankato with Pastor John Petersen officiating. Burial will be in Woodland Hills Memorial Park in Mankato. Visitation will be held from 5 " 7 p.m., Thursday at Mankato Mortuary. Visitation continues one hour before the service at the Church on Friday. Memorials may be given to the donor's choice.
Norbert Meyers was born August 7, 1921 in Elysian to Martin and Annie (Neuendorf) Meyers. He graduated from Waterville High School in 1941. Norbert served his country in US Army during World War II as a combat engineer in the Pacific Theatre. Norbert was united in marriage to Dorothy Lutz on July 2, 1949 at St. John's Episcopal Church in Mankato. He was employed as an auto mechanic in Elysian, worked at Red Feather in Mankato, and drove the Blue Earth County Library Bookmobile for many years. Norbert was a member of Christ the King Lutheran in Mankato.
Norbert enjoyed horseshoes where he achieved many 1st and 2nd place trophies and loved cars especially Fords. He had a great sense of humor.
He is survived by four sisters-in-laws, Shirley May of Minneapolis, Geraldine Chiado of Spring Valley, IL, Emmy (Don) Barry of Carson City, NV, Donna Lutz of Danville, CA; nieces, nephews, and cousins; special friends, Rick Bateman and Norbert's adopted Bateman family of Mankato, Eric and Chris Tangalos of Rochester and Doug Birkholz of Shoreview, MN.
Preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-laws.
