Myron "Mike" Ulen, age 81 of Elysian, died Tuesday, January 30, 2007 at Immanuel-St. Joseph's Hospital in Mankato.
Funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, February 3, 2007 at First English Lutheran Church in Faribault, Minnesota with Rev. Richard Jorgenson officiating. Burial will be in Cedar Hill Cemetery in Elysian. Visitation will be from 4 " 7 p.m., Friday at Mankato Mortuary and one hour before the service on Saturday at the church. Memorials may be given to the donor's choice.
Myron Harley Ulen was born January 3, 1926 in Brown County, Minnesota. He graduated from Morristown High School and St. Olaf College. Mike served his country in the U.S. Navy from 1943 " 1946. Mike was united in marriage to Ione Phyllis Soule on August 24, 1947 at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Morristown, MN. During their 39 years of marriage they raised three children and resided in the Mankato area. He owned and operated his own accounting practice in Mankato.
Mike was the President of the Exchange Club of Mankato in 1963, a member of the Elysian American Legion Post #311, Elk member and former member of the Mankato Golf Club. He enjoyed golfing, telling stories, entertaining people with his guitar playing and singing. Mike was an excellent bridge player and thought he was a dominating pfeffer player.
He is survived by a son, Dana Soule Ulen and special friend, Mary B. Waldo of Elysian; a daughter, Michele "Mikii" Ulen Leckelt and her husband, Ronald of Ham Lake, MN; four grandchildren, Kelliee Nelson, Katy Leckelt, Michael Ulen, Emma Ulen-Klees; three great-grandchildren, Taylor, Stephanie, and Joseph Nelson; special friend, Eleanor "Sis" Reasner of Mankato; six sisters, Carol Anderson of Rochester, Maxine (Don) Nordmeier of Morristown, Joanne (Jerry) Schwichtenberg of Morristown, Sandie (Gordie) Krause of Huxley, IA, Char (Maynard) Schroeder of Morristown, Noreen (Orman) Kalien of Corpus Christi, TX; sister-in-law, Pat Ulen of Corpus Christi, TX; many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Mike was preceded in death by his parents, wife Ione in 1986, daughter, Stephanie in 1993, three brothers, Ronald, Vic, and Clay; two sisters, Lois and Betty.
