Mary Katherine Vee, age 90, a lifetime resident of Mankato, died Monday, January 29, 2007 at Hillcrest Health Care Center after a long battle with Alzheimers.
Funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, January 31, 2007 at Mankato Mortuary with Rev. Jim Dye officiating. Burial will be in Glenwood Cemetery. Visitation will be held one hour before the service at Mankato Mortuary.
Born Mary Brooks on August 1, 1916 to J.R. Roy and Lillian (Mahowald) Brooks, she was known as Sis to her many friends and relatives. At sixteen, she was the youngest in her graduating class of 1933 at Mankato High School. On September 5, 1934 she married Obrean Vee .Together they raised four children, proudly helping them all to graduate from Mankato State. They enjoyed dancing, bridge, hunting, traveling, and their lake home in Northern Minnesota until Obies death in 1975.
Mary was a member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church, sewing club, church circle, and several card groups. She worked part time as a cook at Monroe School.
Mary is survived by her children: Susan Vee of Palm Desert, CA, Stanley (wife Patti Whalen) Vee of Duluth, MN, Steven (Joy) Vee of Rockford, IL, Scott (Bonnie) Vee of Brule, WI; and seven grandchildren. She is also survived by her special friend and long-time companion, Fae Bateman of Mankato. Mary was preceded in death by her parents, her devoted and loving husband, Obrean A. Vee, sister, Jean Bush, and brothers, James, Stanley, and Bobby Brooks.
