Mavis Grace Blakesley, age 87 of Mankato, died Monday, January 15, 2007 at Mankato House Health Care Center.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, January 18, 2007 at Belgrade Ave. United Methodist Church in North Mankato, with Rev. Bart Fletcher officiating. Burial will be in Lakeview Cemetery in Windom. Visitation will be held from 9:30 a.m. until the time of the service on Thursday. Memorials may be given to Belgrade Ave. United Methodist Church. Mankato Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.
Mavis was born September 27, 1919 to Chris and Hannah (Ludeman) Uhlenhopp in Delft, Minnesota. She attended school in Windom. Mavis was married August 20, 1940 to Leonard Giersdorf in Lamberton. They later divorced. She married Leonard Red Blakesley in 1964 in Mankato. Mavis was a homemaker for her family. She was a member of Belgrade Ave. United Methodist Church in North Mankato. Mavis enjoyed breeding toy poodles.
Mavis is survived by three sons, David (Gail) Giersdorf of North Mankato, Larry (Linda) Giersdorf of Mankato, Curtis (Rica) Giersdorf of North Mankato; one daughter, Rita (Jerry) Hanson of Big Lake; ten grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; two step-sons, Glade and Galen Blakesley.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Red Blakesley; and an infant son.
