Sophia M. Oltman, age 101, of Mapleton and formerly of Vernon Center, died Monday, December 18, 2006 at the Mapleton Community Home.
Funeral service will be held at 2 p.m., Friday, December 22, 2006 at St. Peters Lutheran Church, Vernon Center with Rev. John Bennett, officiating. Burial will be in Vernon Center Cemetery. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at church. Lake Crystal Mortuary is in charge of arrangements. Memorials may be given to St. Peters Lutheran Church or an organization of the donors choice.
Sophia was born on November 14, 1905 to Andreas and Johannah (Albers) Mennen. She was united in marriage to Fritz Oltman on January 6, 1927 in Ceylon, MN. Sophia was a homemaker for her family. She was a member of St. Peters Lutheran Church and its ladies aid and the Senior Citizen Club in Vernon Center. She enjoyed dancing, needlework, gardening, and flowers.
Sophia is survived by her children, Eloise Ward of Good Thunder, Josephine Davitt of Columbia Heights, Herbert Oltman and his wife, Charlotte of Good Thunder, Viola Potz of Amboy; twelve grandchildren; twenty three great-grandchildren; seven great-great-grandchildren; many nieces, nephews, and friends.
Sophia was preceded in death by her husband; two sisters; one brother; three sons-in-law; and two grandsons.
