Fr. Charles Kerr, S. J. died Saturday December 2, 2006 in Milwaukee, WI at the age of 87. His funeral was held in Milwaukee last week.
A Memorial Mass will be held at SS Peter and Paul Church on Thursday Dec. 14 at 7:00 p.m. A gathering to share memories will begin at Church at 6:15 p.m.
Fr. Kerr served at SS Peter and Paul Parish in Mankato, Mn. from 1960 to 2003 when he retired to the Jesuit Community at the St. Camillus Care Center in Milwaukee.
Fr. Kerr was born on June 13, 1919 in Erie, PA. His family moved to Milwaukee where he graduated from Marquette University High School. He entered the Society of Jesus at Florissant, Mo in 1937. He was ordained a priest on June 14, 1950 and pronounced his final vows as a Jesuit on August 15, 1953. He has served on the Pine Ridge Reservation in South Dakota, St. Benedict the Moor Parish in Omaha, NE., and for 42 years as associate pastor at SS Peter and Paul Parish. His ministry included teaching religion in the lower grades and serving as spiritual director to several local fraternal chapters including the Catholic Aid Association, the Knights of Columbus, and the Catholic Order of Foresters. Father was also known for his use of a camera as an apostolic tool to help him get acquainted with parishioners. His four decades of service in one parish is the longest of any priest in the Diocese of Winona.
He is survived by two sisters and a brother.
