Sister M. Stanisia Sticka, School Sister of Notre Dame, died Sunday, December 3, 2006, at Good Counsel Convent, Mankato, Minnesota, at age 94.

The Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Thursday, December 7, at 10:30 a.m. in Good Counsel Chapel. Visitation will be from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Wednesday at Good Counsel, with Vespers in the chapel at 7:00 p.m. Visitation is also one hour prior to the funeral on Thursday. Mankato Mortuary is in charge.

Sister M. Stanisia (Isabel Sticka) was born in St. Pius, North Dakota, January 7, 1912, to Ignatius and Mary (Berger) Sticka. She entered the School Sisters of Notre Dame in Mankato in 1928 and took First Vows in 1931. For 47 years, from 1931 to 1978, she served as cook in boarding schools in North Dakota and Minnesota, including cooking in the Motherhouse kitchen for the Sisters and Good Counsel Academy resident students. These years were followed by another 15 years in food service at Immaculate Heart of Mary Seminary, Winona. Before retiring to Good Counsel Motherhouse in Mankato in 1992, she spent the last four years of ministry cooking for Bishop John Vlazny at the Bishops residence in Winona.

Sister is survived by her sister, Barbara Sticka, of Portland, Oregon, and by her sisters in community, the School Sisters of Notre Dame. She was preceded in death by her parents, Ignatius and Mary (Berger) Sticka, her sisters, Eva Binstock, Monica Heidt, Julia Heck, Rose Jahner, and Pauline Barcus, and her brothers, Leo, John, Ralph, and Fr. Stanley Sticka, OSB.
