Virgil R. Harris, age 84, of Lake Crystal, died on Friday, November 24, 2006 at the Lake Crystal Health Care Center. Burial with Military honors will be at Fort Snelling National Cemetery. Lake Crystal Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.
Virgil was born on September 2, 1922 in Cambria, MN to Robert P. and Velma C. (Marsh) Harris. He graduated from Floodwood High School. Virgil enlisted in the Marine Corp. the day after Pearl Harbor and proudly served as a scout and sniper with the 2nd Marine Corp. He participated in action against the enemy in Guadal Canal on August 7, 1942 in addition to action on other islands and was wounded in action on Tulagi. He made his home for many years in California before returning to Minnesota and settling in Lake Crystal. Virgil was an active private pilot and he enjoyed the outdoors.
Virgil is survived by his children: Sharon, Bob, David, Wanda, Tim, Terri, Cindy, and Evan; many grandchildren; one brother Marshall; and one sister Charlotte.
He is preceded in death by his parents.
