To live is Christ, to die is gain. After 89 years of abundant life, Carl L. Bloom joined his Savior, Jesus Christ, in Heaven on November 17, 2006.
He is survived by his wife of 62½ years, Evelyn; 2 daughters, Becky Olson and her husband Lee of Mankato, MN and Marilyn Lubenow and her husband, Mark of San Antonio, TX; 8 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren; 2 sisters, Alyce Dunn of Arizona and Viola Mecke of California; 1 brother Bill Bloom and his wife Barbara of California.
He was preceded in death by 2 sisters Helen Craig and Agnes Underwood; and a brother, Alec Bloom, all of Ohio.
He was born on July 20, 1917 in Spangler, PA to the late John E. & Anna (Anderson) Bloom. He served his country during World War II as a 1st Lieutenant in the U.S. Army Air Corps. He was a pilot and flight instructor in Greenville, MS and Moultrie, GA. During this time he met and married his wife Evelyn Vance of Indianola, MS. He was honorably discharged October 7, 1945.
He began his 44-year career with K-Mart as a Stockman and retired as the vice-president of the Central Region.
He enjoyed golfing as a pastime and was inducted into the Hole in One Club.
The visitation and memorial service was held on Sunday and , November 19th at Caruth-Hale Funeral Home in Hot Springs, Arkansas. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery in Mankato, Minnesota.
Honorary pallbearers will be Pete Davenport, Lee Krengel, Joshua Lubenow, Mark Lubenow, Lee Olson, Spencer Olson, Charles Vance Spears, Dr. Randy Hill, Dr. Rajesh Shroff and Dr. Edward Warren.
