Father Harold Bernard Mountain, age 89, of Mankato, died Sunday, November 12, 2006 at the Mankato Lutheran Home. He was the oldest priest of the Diocese of Winona.

Mass of Christian Burial will be 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, November 15, 2006 at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Mankato. Visitation will be 4-6 p.m. at the church on Tuesday, with a 6:00 p.m. rosary service. Visitation will continue one hour prior to the service at the church on Wednesday. Burial will be in Immaculate Conception Cemetery in St. Clair. Please remember Father Harold in your Masses and prayers. Mankato Mortuary is handling arrangements.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to an organization of the donors choice.

Harold Bernard Mountain was born August 1, 1917 in Lyra Township, Blue Earth County the eldest son of Edward F. and Ada M. (Bowe) Mountain. He was a graduate of Good Thunder High School and studied the classics at St. Marys College in Winona. He received his Philosophy degree from St. Pauls Seminary in St. Paul and his Theology degree from St. Thomas Seminary in Denver, CO. A priest for 64 years, Father Harold was ordained May 30, 1942 by Bishop John H. Peschges at the Chapel of the Angels at St. Teresas College in Winona. He celebrated his First Solemn Mass on June 1, 1942 at St. Josephs Church in Good Thunder.

Father Mountains appointments included, St. Marys in Madelia, St. Thomas Pro Cathedral in Winona, St. Bernards in Stewartville with a mission church Sacred Heart in Hayfield, Christ the King in Medford with a mission church Corpus Christi in Deerfield, St. Casimirs in Wells, and Immaculate Conception in St. Clair. Rev. Mountain retired in June of 1989 and has since resided in Mankato.

Father Mountain is survived by his brother, Father Edward C. Mountain of Owatonna; sister, Florence Wagner and her husband, Warren of Mankato; many other relatives and friends. Father Mountain was preceded in death by his parents; a brother-in-law; and two nephews.
