Robert M. Johnson, age 83, of Winona, died Saturday, October 28, 2006 at St. Elizabeth Health Care Center in Wabasha.
Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, November 1, 2006 at Mankato Mortuary, with Rev. Ronald P. Matson officiating. Visitation will be 4-7 p.m. on Tuesday at Mankato Mortuary and continues one hour prior to the service on Wednesday. Interment with military honors will be at Ft. Snelling National Cemetery in Minneapolis.
Robert was born on October 20, 1923 in Ponsford. He was the son of Luther and Annis (Hill) Johnson. Robert was a graduate of Cleveland High School. He was united in marriage to Jean Roemer on February 4, 1948 in Mankato. Robert was a career U.S. Army veteran, having served during WWII, the Korean War, and Viet Nam War. He retired from active duty in 1971. Robert was a member of the Eagles Club, Mankato Moose Lodge, and was a life member of the VFW. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, playing cards, and watching TV.
Robert is survived by his daughter, Donna (Glen) Hopp of Winona; son, Charles (Lore) Johnson of Rochester; five grandchildren, Amy (Phil) Cain, Jeff (Julie) Hopp, Lisa (Mike) Wolf, Kevin Johnson, and Ryan Johnson; seven great-grandchildren, Ethan and Macy Jean Cain, Brandon, Gabrielle, and Reid Wolf, and Lauren and Abigail Johnson; two sisters, Letha Kramer of Armour, SD and Burnett Perkins of Yakima, WA; brother, Grant (Mary) Johnson of Austin; also nieces, nephews, and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Jean; three brothers and one sister.
