Edward Christnagel, age 66 of rural Lake Crystal, died after a courageous battle with cancer on Tuesday, October 17, 2006 at his home surrounded by his family. There will be a time to visit with the family from 5-7 p.m. on Friday at Mankato Mortuary.
Edward Ernest Christnagel was born April 9, 1940 in St. James to Rheinhart and Frances Christnagel. He attended Mankato High School, entered the US Navy in 1959, and was honorably discharged in 1962. On October 19, 1963, he was married to Janet L. Brostrom in Algona, IA. They resided in North Mankato prior to moving to the rural Lake Crystal area in 1974. Ed worked in various security and law enforcement positions before his employment as a police officer in Lake Crystal. He retired in 2002 as Chief of Police in Good Thunder. Ed enjoyed golfing, fishing, playing cards, and slot machines.
Survivors include five children, Mark (Letitia) Christnagel of Fort Dodge, IA, Julie Harrington (friend, Mark Heintz) of Rochester, Lisa (James) Claussen of Brooklyn Park, Amy (Jeff) Caven of Good Thunder, Scott (Kari) Christnagel of North Mankato; 11 grandchildren; two sisters, Linda Christnagel of Mankato, Diana Christnagel of Waseca; mother-in-law, Louise Brostrom of Mapleton; nieces and nephews. Ed was preceded in death by his parents, wife, brother, and father-in-law, Vern Brostrom.
