James G. Wakefield, age 83 of Lake Washington, died Friday, February 6, 2009 at Immanuel " St. Joseph's Hospital in Mankato.
Funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, February 11, 2009 at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Mankato with Rev. Arne Jessen officiating. Burial will be in Savage Lake Cemetery in rural St. Peter. Visitation will be held one hour before the service on Wednesday at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to Immanuel St. Joseph Hospital Foundation or Bethlehem Lutheran Church. Mankato Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.
James G. Wakefield was born November 2, 1925 to William and Ida (Vorbeck) Wakefield in St. Peter. He graduated from St. Peter High School. Jim served his country in the US Army from 1944 " 1946 with the 10th Army Mountain Div. Co. 86. in Italy during World War II. Jim was united in marriage to Mildred H. Thomas on June 12, 1949. He founded James G. Wakefield Construction and worked with his company for 40 years helping to building many business and homes in the Mankato and St. Peter area. Jim was a member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church, Mankato Eagles, and VFW Post # 950. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, trapping, and spending time with his family.
Jim is survived by his wife, Mildred of Lake Washington; step-daughter, Darlene Erickson of Janesville; step-son, Darrell Thomas of Lake Washington; three children, Sandra (Russell) Rieffer of Lake Washington, James C. Wakefield (Julie Lemley) of Madison Lake, William H. (Julie) Wakefield of rural Mankato; eleven grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; one sister, Ida McAnney of Visalia, CA; three sisters-in-law, Hettie Wakefield of Grand Junction, CO, Betty Oliver of Mankato, Evangeline (Oris) Mortvedt of rural Blue Earth.
Jim was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers; and three sisters.
