Eugene "Geno", "Honey", or "Butch" Leo Goettl Jr., age 55 of Mankato, died Saturday, January 24, 2009 at his home as the result of an accident.
Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Monday, February 2, 2009 at Hosanna Lutheran Church in Mankato, with Rev. Steve Kosberg officiating. Burial with Military Honors will be in Woodland Hills Memorial Park. Visitation will be held from 12:30 p.m. until 4:30 p.m. on Sunday, February 1, 2009 at Hosanna Lutheran Church in Mankato. In lieu of flowers, the family prefers donations to the donor's choice. Mankato Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.
Eugene L. Goettl was born April 7, 1953 to Eugene and Arletta (Coult) Goettl Sr. in Mankato. He graduated from St. Clair High School in 1971. He served his country in the U.S. Army from 1972-1975. Gene was united in marriage to Kathleen A. Morstad on August 3, 1985 in St. Clair. He was employed by Kato Engineering for over 35 years and was serving as president of the KEECU. He was a member of Hosanna Lutheran Church and American Legion Post #475 where he was the Commander. He also was the Chaplain for the Blue Earth Co. Council for the American Legion. He was the head elementary wrestling coach in St. Clair. Gene loved life, gardening, fishing, canoeing, woodworking, remodeling, four wheeling, fantasy football, golf and was an avid Gophers and Twins fan. Gene was also a wonderful grandfather.
Eugene is survived by his wife, Kathleen; five children, Nicole (Chris) Wakefield of Mahtomedi, Shane (Toni) Goettl of Ft. Lewis, WA, Matthew (Tally) Rasmussen of rural Mankato, Michael (Cynthia) Rasmussen of Ft. Jackson, S.C., and Tyler Goettl and special friend, Emily Severson of rural Mankato; 10 grandchildren, Henry Laue, Meagan Wakefield, Mitch and Kayla Hawver, Danielle and Amanda Goettl, Dylan and Mykayla Rasmussen, Hanna Wilson, and Julianna Rasmussen; mother, Arletta Goettl of rural Mankato; five siblings, Pam (Thane) Shaw of Pemberton, Paul Goettl of Mankato, Molly (Wayne) Goebel of rural Mankato, Keith (Joan ) Goettl of Rush City, Bill (R"z) Goettl of St. Clair; mother-in-law, Marilyn Morstad of Hampden, ND; four sisters-in-law, Denise Harpestad and special friend, Arlen of Hampden, ND, Darlene (Terry) Lundquist of Alsen, ND, Michelle (Craig) Dahl of Park River, ND, and Carla (Lee) Werner of Starkweather, ND; two brothers-in-law, David (Laurie) Morstad and Glenn (Mykal) Morstad, both of Hampden, ND; family friend, Ivadell Hunter.
He was preceded in death by his father, Eugene Sr. and father-in-law, Ordale Morstad.
