Alma M. Bohling, age 89, of Mankato died, Tuesday, January 20, 2009 at Sterling House, Mankato.
Funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Monday, January 26, 2009 at Christ the King Lutheran Church, Mankato with Rev. Donohue Sarff, officiating. Burial will be in Windom Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be one hour before service at church on Monday. Memorials may be given to Christ the King Lutheran Church or Concordia College Scholarship fund. Mankato Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.
Alma was born July 18, 1919 to Marselius and Kristofa (Osaland) Holt in Waseca County, Minnesota. She graduated from Windom High School in 1937 and later the Mankato School of Beauty Culture. She worked as a Beautician in Windom, Lamberton, and Walnut Grove, Minnesota. She was united in marriage to Erwin Bohling on March 8, 1943. After marriage she worked at Patterson Air Force Field, Fairfield, Ohio while Erwin was in the service. Erwin was killed during World War II on November 16, 1944 in Belgium and is buried in Margraten, Netherlands.
Alma returned to Minnesota and graduated from Lutheran Bible Institute, Minneapolis and later Concordia College with a Bachelor of Arts Degree. She then graduated from Mankato State College with a Bachelor of Science Degree, and received her Master's Degree in Elementary Education form Mankato State University. Alma taught school in Rochester, Minnesota for 10 years, and Mankato for 25 years before retiring from District 77 Schools. Alma was a member of Christ the King Lutheran Church, Mankato where she directed many bible studies. She was also a former member of the American Lutheran Church in Windom. She was a member of Delta Gappa Gamma. Alma enjoyed quilting, creating artwork, and her travels to Europe and Norway.
Alma is survived by her sister, Selma (Alton) Gohman of Windom, Minnesota; many nieces, nephews and cousins. Preceded in death by her parents, husband, Erwin; two sisters, Clara Tasler, Gladys Thomsen; three brothers, Joseph Holt, Mervin Holt, infant Selmer Holt.
