Mankato, MN " Gary L. Purdie, age 58, of Mankato, died Tuesday, September 26, 2006 of a cardiac arrest at the St. Cloud Hospital.
Funeral service will be 2:00 p.m. Sunday October 1, 2006 at Christ the King Lutheran Church in Mankato with Rev. John Petersen, officiating. Burial will be in Glenwood Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4-7 p.m. Saturday at Mankato Mortuary and will continue one hour prior to the service at the church on Sunday. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to the donors choice.
Gary was born March 13, 1948 in Albert Lea to Loren H. and Ardean (Beyer) Purdie. He was a 1966 Minnesota Lake High School graduate and attended Mankato State University. He married Ann Gracyalny and was later divorced. On June 11, 1983, he was united in marriage to Kathy Zimmer in Echo. They made their home in Mankato, where Gary was in promotional sales.
Gary was a member of Christ the King Lutheran Church. He was very active in the Mankato Elks Club, a member of the Moose, Eagles and former Jaycees member. He is a member and was the first Commander of the Sons of American Legion Post 518 of North Mankato. Gary also participated as a softball tournament director, umpire and coached youth activities. He enjoyed doing handyman projects, golfing, fishing, and bowling, where he was the league president. Gary was also an avid Twins and Vikings fan.
He is survived by wife, Kathy Purdie of Mankato; daughter, Kristy and Dave Paulson of Roberts, WI, son, Nick Purdie of Mankato; a granddaughter, Anna Paulson; mother, Ardean and Don Douma of Mankato; three sisters, Sharon and Buddy Sand of Rochester, NY, Nancy and John Johnson of Rochester, MN, Terri Purdie of Owatonna; brother, David and Lana Purdie of New Richland; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Arlo and Donna Zimmer of Echo; sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, nieces, nephews, and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his father, Loren Brownie , sister, Vicki, and a nephew, Joe.
