Robert C. Cornish, age 90, of North Mankato, formerly of Vernon Center, died Tuesday, September 26, 2006 at Oaklawn Health Care Center in Mankato. Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m., Saturday, September 30, 2006 at Grace United Methodist Church in Vernon Center, with Rev. Wanda Kothlow officiating. Visitation will be 4-7 p.m. on Friday at Lake Crystal Mortuary, and continues one hour prior to the service at the church on Saturday. Burial will be in Vernon Center Cemetery.
Robert was born on July 31, 1916 in Vernon Center. He was the son of Sanford and Hazel (Nobles) Cornish. Robert was a 1934 graduate of Garden City High School. He was united in marriage to Rosella Jones on August 12, 1944 in Mankato. Robert was a life-long farmer. He was a member of Grace United Methodist Church, Vernon Center School Board, Blue Earth County Agriculture Society, and was past president of the Vernon Center Cemetery Board. Robert enjoyed collecting John Deere memorabilia.
Robert is survived by his wife, Rosella Cornish of North Mankato; son, Jim Cornish of Vernon Center; daughter, Lois Henderson and her fiancé, Al Sisto of Orinda, CA; four grandchildren, Robert Cornish and his wife, Christine, Christy Cornish and her partner, Ralph Ingrassia, Michael Henderson and Matthew Henderson; one great-grandson, James Cornish-Ingrassia; sister, Ruth Fredericksen of Lake Crystal; brother, Gordon Cornish and his wife, Jana of Vernon Center; also several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Mary Putrah.
