Sister Mary Ruth Sattler, School Sister of Notre Dame, age 91, died Saturday, September 23, 2006, at Good Counsel Convent, Mankato, Minnesota.
The Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Tuesday, September 26, at 10:30 a.m. in Good Counsel Chapel, with Fr. Peter Nosbush as celebrant. Visitation is from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. today at Good Counsel, with Vespers in the chapel at 7:00 p.m. Visitation is also one hour prior to the funeral on Tuesday. Mankato Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.
Sister Mary Ruth (Lucille Sattler) was born in New England, North Dakota, June 15, 1915, to Frank and Lucy (Kobe) Sattler. She entered the School Sisters of Notre Dame in Mankato in 1932 and took First Vows in 1935. During her more than 50 years of teaching, she taught music and all the grades in elementary schools in Minnesota, Iowa, North Dakota, and Washington. For six years, from 1976 to 1982, she gave music lessons at Holy Rosary School, North Mankato. She also taught in Good Counsel Learning Center and was organist at Good Counsel from 1989 until her retirement in 1995. Over those years she earned a B.S. in Education from Mount Mary College, Milwaukee, and an M.S. in Education from Loras College, Dubuque.
She was preceded in death by her parents, two sisters, and two brothers.
