David William Dallenbach, age78, passed away on September 6th, 2006 at the Waseca Medical Center after a brief battle with lung cancer.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 am. Monday September 11th, 2006 at St. Marks Lutheran Church in Mankato with Pastor Keith Siverly officiating. Visitation will be held Sunday September 10th, 2006 from 2 pm. " 5pm. at Mankato Mortuary and an hour prior to the service at the church.
David was born to John and Amelia Dallenbach on October 1st, 1927 in Redwood Falls, Minnesota. Graduating from Morton High School in 1945 he enjoyed 4-H and was his schools leading scorer in basketball. Following graduation, David enlisted in the U. S. Navy serving as a seaman 1st class aboard the USS Alabama during World War II. Returning from military duty, David attended Mankato Teachers College. In April of 1951, David and Rosella Reichel were united in marriage. Soon after, he began a career in the trucking and motor freight business as a sales representative and district manager for Murphy Motor Freight Lines. David began his own business in the Mankato area, operating as Murphy Trucking/ Dallenbach Transfer. David became instrumental in advancing through legislation the, Piggy Back Trailers in Minnesota. In later years he would return to a sales career with Hyman Freight/Volk Transfer until his retirement in 1994. David enjoyed playing golf and cards with friends at the Mankato Golf Club, dartball at St. Marks, and having coffee with the infamous, Bullshippers Club . Most importantly was spending time with his grandchildren. David was a member of the VFW Post 9713, American Legion Post #11, Teamsters Union #487, Downtown Mankato Kiwannas Club, Mankato Chamber of Commerce, St. Marks Lutheran Church, Skyline City Council, and Southern Minnesota Traffic Club.
David is survived by his wife Rose, three children, Diana (Dale) Simonson of Cleveland MN, Susan (Mark) Zrust of Mankato, and Will Dallenbach of Mankato, five grandchildren, John and Amanda Zrust, Bethany Dallenbach, and Sophie and Dylan Simonson. He is survived by one brother, Wolter (Dawn) Dallenbach of Morgan MN. He was preceded in death by his mother and father.
David was valued in the community as an honest businessman and friend. He will be forever remembered as a wonderful husband, dad, and grandpa.
