Dr. Joanne Elizabeth Brandt, age 55 of North Mankato, died Friday August 18, 2006 as the result of an accidental fall at her lake home in Hackensack, Minnesota.

A memorial service will be held at 4:00 p.m., Wednesday, August 23, 2006 in the Recital Hall at the Performing Arts Center on the campus of Minnesota State University, Mankato with Rev. Erik Holleque of Our Saviors Lutheran Church of Hibbing, MN, officiating. A time to greet the family will take place after the service. Mankato Mortuary is in charge of arrangements. In lieu of flowers memorials may be given to CADA House or the Dr. Joanne Brandt Scholarship fund.
Dr. Brandt was born May 3, 1951 to John and Norma (Magestad) Brandt in Menomonie, Wisconsin. She received her B.A. from Moorhead State University, her masters from the University of Wisconsin " Superior, and her PhD from the University of Iowa. Joanne was united in marriage to Jon Kalinowski on June 5, 1978 in Winnipeg, Ontario. Dr. Brandt was a professor of Counseling and Student Development at Minnesota State from 1984 until present. Joanne served as chairperson of the Department of Counseling and interim dean of the College of Education during her tenure at MSU. She was the director of Emergency Foster Care of Lake and Cook Counties from 1977 " 1980. Dr. Brandt was a member of various professional organizations.
Joanne dedicated her life to her family and cherished every moment she spent with them. She loved being a mom to her boys, a wife to her husband, and a daughter to her mother. Her laughter and warmth were contagious to those around her. She enjoyed traveling, reading, teaching, and spending time with family and friends at their lake home.
Survivors include her husband, Dr. Jon Kalinowski of North Mankato; two sons, Paul Brandt-Kalinowski of Minneapolis, Michael Brandt-Kalinowski of North Mankato; two step-sons, Thomas (Erin) Kalinowski, Robert (Meagan) Kalinowski all of Scottsdale, AZ; step-grandchildren, Tanner, Landon, Jaden, Madison, Taylor; mother Norma Brandt of Hibbing, MN; two brothers, Alan Brandt of Hibbing, MN, James (Carol) Brandt of Chisholm, MN; two nieces, Carolyn and Kimberly; and grand niece, Devyn.
She was preceded in death by her father, John.
