William B. Zoelle, age 83, of North Mankato, died peacefully on Thursday, August 17, 2006 surrounded by his family at Immanuel St. Josephs Hospital in Mankato, following a courageous battle with cancer.
Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, August 22, 2006 at Holy Rosary Catholic Church in North Mankato, with Rev. Peter Nosbush officiating. Visitation will be 4-7 p.m. on Monday at Mankato Mortuary, with a 7 p.m. Rosary service. Visitation continues one hour prior to the service at the church on Tuesday. Burial with military honors will be in Calvary Cemetery in Mankato. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to Immanuel St. Josephs Hospice Program, Holy Rosary Catholic Church, or American Cancer Society.
William Benjamin Zoelle was born on November 29, 1922 in Mankato. He was the son of Edward and Josephine (Leiferman) Zoelle. William was a 1940 graduate of Loyola High School and Mankato Commercial College. He served his country in the U.S. Marines during WWII in the Pacific Theater. He participated in battles at Cape Gloucester, New Britain; at Peleliu, Palau Islands; and at Okinawa, where he earned a Purple Heart. William was united in marriage to Dolores Schmitz on May 8, 1948 in Mankato. He was employed with the Mankato Post Office as a supervisor for collection and carriers. William was a member of Holy Rosary Catholic Church in North Mankato, VFW Post 950, D.A.V., American Legion Post 518, Knights of Columbus, Kiwanis, and was a Cub Master for ten years. He enjoyed golfing, bowling, fishing, and playing cards.
William is survived by his wife, Dolores Zoelle of North Mankato; six children, William J. (Dee Dee) Zoelle of Green Bay, WI, Janice (Stanley) Seys of Waseca, Timothy Zoelle of Colorado Springs, CO, Joseph Zoelle of White Bear Lake, John (Vickie) Zoelle of Burnsville, and Paul Zoelle of Denver, CO; six grandchildren, Suzanne (Chad) Moertl, William (Karen) Zoelle, Melissa (Jacob Warner) Zoelle, Chad Seys and special friend, Amanda Crim, Trisha (Paul Raola) Seys Raola, and Deanna Burris; two great-grandchildren, Zoe and Ella Moertl; one brother, Edward (Virginia) Zoelle of Waterford, WI; two sisters, Marie (Bill) Stutson of Oshkosh, WI and Josephine Festge of Milwaukee, WI; also many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; foster parents, Joseph and Ida Meurer; one son, Steven; and one brother, Jerome Zoelle.
