Charles T. Peterson, age 89 of Mankato, Minnesota died, Saturday, August 12, 2006 at Immanuel-St. Josephs Hospital in Mankato.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Wednesday, August 16, 2006 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Joseph the Worker Catholic Church in Mankato with Rev. John Wilmot and Rev. Syl Brown officiating. Burial will be at Calvary Cemetery, Mankato. Visitation will be from 4-7 p.m. Tuesday at Mankato Mortuary with a 7 p.m. prayer service and will continue one hour before service at church on Wednesday. Memorials are preferred to St. Josephs the Worker Catholic Church or Immanuel-St. Josephs Hospice.

Charles Thomas Peterson was born on September 22, 1916 at Elmore, Minnesota to Carl D. and Queen V. (Emerson) Peterson. He was raised and educated at Deephaven-Minnetonka, Minnesota where his father was Superintendent of Schools for 36 years. He attended the University of Minnesota in Minneapolis where he graduated in 1938, at age 21, with J.D. in Law. He married Marguerite Sexton in Janesville, Minnesota in 1946 and moved to Mankato to join the law firm of Smith & McLean, later to be the McLean Peterson Law Firm.

He was a charter member of St. Joseph the Worker Catholic Church where he served as President of the Parents & Teachers Association. He was a veteran of World War II serving in the Asiatic-Pacific Areas for three years. He was a former President and member of the Mankato Jr. Chamber of Commerce, former President and long time member of the Mankato Lions Club, and a former member of the Board of Directors and Trustee of the Mankato YMCA. He served for many years on both the Mankato Police Civil Service and Mankato Fire Fighters Civil Service Commissions. He was a long time member of Knights of Columbus, American Legion Post #11, and Mankato Golf Club. He was elected as Special Municipal Judge in 1968 and served in that capacity for several years. He was former President of the 6th Judicial Bar Association, member of the Blue Earth County, State of Minnesota, and American Bar Associations. He was also Chairman of the Blue Earth County Republican Committee from 1968 " 1972.

Charles is survived by his wife, Marguerite of Mankato; daughter, Mary Pat Fasnacht and husband, Richard of Madison Lake; son, John Chuck Peterson and wife, Helen also of Madison Lake; daughter, Kathleen Kathy Fostner and husband, Gary of Eden Prairie; daughter, Margaret Peggy Newell and husband, Thomas of Albert Lea, and daughter, Ann Johnson and husband, Dr. Bryan of North Mankato; nine grandchildren, Charles Newell of Albert Lea; Ann Fasnacht of Shakopee; Katie (Cline) Wieber and husband, Ryan of Plymouth; Tracy (Fasnacht) Huber and husband, Robb of Mankato; Carl Peterson of Mankato; David Newell of Albert Lea; Brent Peterson of Madison Lake; Kelli and Ford Johnson of North Mankato; other survivors include, sister, Mary Jane McInerny of Victoria; brother-in-law, John Jack Sexton and wife, Peggy of Socorro, New Mexico; sister-in-law, Patricia May and husband, Gene of rural Mankato, as well as many nieces and nephews.
