Alvina was born in South Branch Township, Watonwan County on April 11, 1909 to Fred and Caroline (Hecht) Kasch. Alvina attended school in St. James. She married Edward Keenan on February 8, 1925 in St. James. After moving to Mankato and the death of her husband in 1944, Alvina raised her seven children by working in various stores. She especially loved working at Immanuel St. Josephs Hospital until her retirement in 1976, at the age of 67. She resided at Gus Johnson Plaza (formerly Immanuel Hospital) for 25 years.
Alvina enjoyed working crossword puzzles, traveling, crocheting, reading and fishing. Her life was a myriad of interesting events such as changing Walter Mondales diaper, meeting the King of Sweden, and being on the television program, It Could Be You in 1959. She enjoyed spending time with her family as much as her family enjoyed spending time with her and listening to her stories.
Alvina is survived by three daughters, Margaret Seitzer of Little Falls, Kathleen (Chuck) Schueneman of Mankato, and Patricia (Lauren) Johnston of Mankato; two sons, Eugene Keenan of Mankato, and Robert (Ruth) Keenan of Colorado Springs, CO; twenty-five grandchildren; forty-four great-grandchildren; thirty-three great-great grandchildren; daughter-in-law, Theresa Keenan of Chicopee, MA; son-in-law, Dennis Wild of Longmont, CO; and seven nieces and two nephews.
