James David Baker, age 74, of Mankato died Sunday, July 30, 2006 at his home.
Funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, August 2, 2006 at Hosanna Lutheran Church, Mankato with Rev. Steve Kosberg and Rev. Dan Weise, officiating. Burial will be in Woodland Hills Memorial Park, Mankato. Visitation will be held from 4-7 p.m. Tuesday at Mankato Mortuary and will continue one hour before service at church on Wednesday. In lieu of flowers memorials may be given to American Heart Association, Immanuel-St. Josephs Hospice, Hosanna Lutheran Church or the donors choice.
Jim was born on July 18, 1932 to Marion and Ada (Beynon) Baker in Rapid City, South Dakota. He was united in marriage to Dorine Marchell on June 2, 1956 in Langdon, North Dakota. They just celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary. Jim enlisted in the U.S. Navy in January 1951 and retired as a Chief Petty Officer in July 1971. They moved to Mankato where Jim was employed by C&S Supply as a warehouse manager until retiring in July 1994. Jim was a charter member of Hosanna Lutheran Church, where he served as a trustee. He was a member of the American Legion Post 617 of Eagle Lake, DAV and fleet reserve. He enjoyed his children and grandchildren, watching all types of sports, fishing, playing cards and doing puzzles.
Grateful for having shared his life, Jim is survived by his wife, Dorine of Mankato; son, Richard (Linda) Baker of Mankato; two daughters, Karen (Steve) Doty of Mankato, Renea Baker of St. Clair; seven grandchildren, Jeff Wells, Jess Baker, Sara Wells, Hal Bohrer, Kendra Baker, Tyler Doty, and John Terhurne; sister, Phyllis (Andrew) Johnson of Mapleton; brother, Gary (Pat) Baker of Canton, OH; and many other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; infant grandson, Brett Terhurne; sisters and brothers-in-law, Rose and Allan Tommeraasen, Rene and John Felber; two brothers, Raymond and Richard Baker.
