Dale Edward Yahnke passed away December 14, 2012 at Timely Mission Health Care Center, in Buffalo Center, Iowa at age 88.
A Celebration of Dale's Life will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, May 4, 2013 at Northview Mortuary, North Mankato with visitation at 9:30 a.m. until the time of service. A private family interment will be held later that day at the Lake Crystal Cemetery. Memorials preferred to the Echo Food Shelf or VINE.
Dale was born May 21, 1924 to Charlie and Nettie Yahnke in Garden City, Minnesota, being the youngest of six children.
After graduating from Garden City High School in 1942, he attended a trade school. He worked in a machine shop during WWII by assisting with the manufacturer of generators for the U.S. Army. Although he acquired many skills as a machinist his real love was farming and he returned home helping on the family farm and being a farm hand at a neighbor's farm. With the help of the Harold Case family, Dale farmed rental land and eventually owned his own property.
On February 24, 1944 he married Helen Berg his high school sweetheart. They were married 65 years at the time of Helen's passing in May 2009. They had three children, Steven, Audrey, and Marvin.
Dale is survived by his three children, Steve (Janet) Yahnke of Lake Crystal, Minnesota, Audrey (Dave) Eiler of Emily, Minnesota, Marvin (Shirley) Yahnke of Frost, Minnesota, 10 grandchildren; 14 great grandchildren; and 8 great-great grandchildren; and many extended family.
Dale was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Helen; three brothers; and two sisters.
