William A. (Bill) Brielmaier, age 79, died at St. John Lutheran Home, Springfield, MN on Wednesday, May 18, 2011. He was born July 6, 1931 to Bob and Nell Brielmaier in Mitchell, SD moving that same year to Mankato, MN.
Mass of Christian burial will be held at 1 pm Monday, May 23, 2011 at SS Peter and Paul Catholic Church, Mankato. Visitation will be from 11 to 1 pm prior to service at the church. Burial will be at Calvary Cemetery. Mankato Mortuary is assisting the family with arrangements.
Bill's education started and grew with the Loyola Catholic School system. He remained a staunch supporter of Catholic education and the School Sisters of Notre Dame. After graduating from Loyola High School, he joined the Army in 1951, served in the Korean War as a Sergeant First Class. Bill was a double Bronze Star recipient. Upon discharge in 1954, he enrolled in Dunwoody Institute in Minneapolis, MN to study Civil Engineering. He went on to become a Construction Superintendent for McCree and Company, traveling around the state of Minnesota. In 1966, Bill began shared ownership and management with his brother of Mankato Aglime and Rock Company. He remained active in Mankato Aglime until his retirement in1995.
At the same time he began building his career; he met and married Carol Blakeslee of Mankato. They married in September of 1955. While Bill loved to work, he also loved to travel. He and Carol spent many winters in Mexico, California, and Arizona. Socializing was another favorite activity of Bill's. He was blessed with friendships dating back to elementary school days. These friendships included meeting regularly and celebrating various sporting activities, especially the Loyola Crusaders and Minnesota Golden Gophers. Bill and Carol ended their marriage in1997. In 2001, Bill married Micky Schulte. They thoroughly enjoyed each other's company, living in their "cottage" on Lake Washington, until Micky's death in 2004.
Bill is survived by three sons: Mark (Michele), Lake Crystal, MN, Paul (Kathy), Mankato, MN, and Tom (Katy), Madison Lake, MN; grandchildren, Ben, Bret, Jack, and Anna; sisters Mary (Fred) Tschirley, Green Valley, AZ and Jan (Phil) Kormann, St. Paul, MN; his brother Don (Elsie), Mankato, MN and ten nieces and nephews. Preceding Bill in death were his parents and one niece.
Memorials are preferred to the W.A. Brielmaier Family Endowment with Schola Foundation or School Sisters of Notre Dame, both of Mankato, MN.
