Edgar Otto Wenkel, age 96, passed away on April 1, 2011 at Immanuel St. Joseph's Hospital after a short illness.

A Funeral Service will be held at 2 p.m., Tuesday, April 5, 2011 at Our Savior's Lutheran Church, Mankato, with Rev. Paul Lauer officiating. Visitation will be on Monday from 4-7 p.m. at Mankato Mortuary and will continue one hour prior to the service at the church. Burial will be at Glenwood Cemetery, Mankato.

Edgar was born at his parent's home, Edward and Anna (Oldenburg) Wenkel, in rural Decoria Township, Blue Earth County on December 27, 1914. Edgar was united in marriage to Bernadette Senesac. He lived his entire life and farmed in Decoria Township, Blue Earth County. He was an avid trapper and also enjoyed hunting ducks and deer. He shot his first turkey at the age of 89. He also enjoyed fishing. He grew ginseng and planted numerous trees. He gardened and especially enjoyed growing melons and sharing them with family and neighbors. Edgar never really retired, he continued to help farm the home place, including chopping corn stalks in the fall of 2010. He was an active member of Our Savior's Lutheran Church.

Edgar is survived by his wife Bernadette Wenkel; children: Richard (Nancy) Wenkel, Herbert (Linda) Wenkel, Clarice (Gary) Roseberry, and Kenneth (Cynthia) Wenkel; six grandchildren: Daniel (Beth) Wenkel, Erika (Todd) Seppmann, Jesse Roseberry, Jarett Roseberry, Andrew Wenkel, and Benjamin Wenkel; three great-grandchildren: Tyler, Jonathan and Ethan Seppmann; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two half brothers, Leo and Herbert Wendlandt; two half sisters, Nora (Paul) Bartsch and Lydia (Otto) Bartsch; brother, Ervin (Phyllis) Wenkel; and two sisters, Magdalene (Bud) Schneider and Violet (Les) Webster.
