Katherine Mary (Thro) Frost, 87, of North Mankato, died peacefully surrounded by her family on March 17, 2011 at Laurel's Edge after a lengthy spirited and courageous battle with Alzheimer's disease.

Mass of Christian Burial will be 10 a.m. Tuesday, March 22, 2011 at Holy Rosary Catholic Church with Rev. Peter Nosbush officiating. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery in Mankato. Visitation will be from 5-8 p.m. Monday at North Mankato Mortuary NORTHVIEW. Visitation will continue one hour prior to the service at the church on Tuesday. Memorials are preferred to Holy Rosary Catholic Church, the Alzheimer's Association at www.alz.org/mnnd or to an organization of the donor's choice.

Katherine was born on January 30, 1924, the third child of John Clifford Thro and Cora Linder Thro of Mankato. Kay graduated from Mankato High School in 1941, attended St. Catherine's College and on September 14, 1944 married Charles F. Frost, Lt., Army Air Corps, of Mankato at St. John's Catholic Church. Kay finished her degree in home economics and physical education at Mankato State College in 1961 balancing her studies with raising the first 8 of their 10 children.

Energetic and social, Kay was active in PEO and Woman's Club, played tennis robustly for many years, traveled extensively, played bridge in several groups, and belonged to sewing club for over 50 years. Kay loved camping, biking, horses, chocolate, gourmet cooking, and making lefse. Kay did crafts, needlework and gardening but felt her greatest accomplishment was marrying the love of her life Charlie and raising their 10 children.

Katherine especially enjoyed time spent with her extensive family and her many friends. Over the years, Kay volunteered at her church, the children's schools, Boy Scouts, Camp Fire Girls, the YWCA and numerous other organizations. Kay and Charlie hosted numerous foreign exchange students in their home.

Kay was proud of her Catholic faith and her Swedish ancestry. Kay had many favorite expressions that will be remembered by her family and friends "you know it baby!", "to each his own", "everybody should have ten kids". You only needed to mention a place you were thinking of going and Kay would say, "Let's GO!" She loved to go to new places and have new experiences but always was happy to return to her adoring husband and their beloved Mankato/North Mankato which she believed was "the" center of the universe!

Katherine is survived by her husband Charles of North Mankato; five sons, Charles (Diane) Frost of Mankato, Steven Frost of Dellwood, MN, Mark (Jennifer) Frost of Mankato, Rick Frost of Apple Valley, MN, Christopher (Lisa) Frost of Savage, MN and four daughters, Mary Summer Frost of Lexington, KY, Katherine (Rick) Iverson of Durham, NC, Jane (Eric) Burgan of Kirkland, WA, Elizabeth (Martin) Vaage of Savage, MN.
