Lyle J. Gens, age 83, of Eagle Lake died Thursday, March 17, 2011 at Immanuel St. Joseph's Hospital, Mankato.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m., Monday, March 21, 2011 at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, St. Clair. Visitation will be held from 9-11 a.m., Monday at church. Burial with military honors will be in Eagle Lake Cemetery. Mankato Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.
Lyle was born May 25, 1927 to August and Frieda (Maus) Gens in Ceresco Township, Blue Earth County. He served his country during World War II in the U.S. Navy. He was united in marriage to Virginia L. Mountain on August 26, 1950 at SS. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, Mankato. Lyle had been employed by Continental Cans, Archer Daniels, Big Gain Feeds, and for the City of Eagle Lake before retiring in 1990. He was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church and the Eagle Lake American Legion. He enjoyed playing cards and fishing. Lyle enjoyed spending time at the family cabin on Lake Washington for 33 years.
Lyle is survived by four daughters, Kathy (Tom) Lang of Janesville, Cheryl (Dan) Sodeman of Janesville, Amy Hager of Eagle Lake, Bridget (Rick) Nusser of Eagle Lake; two sons, Mark (Joyce) Gens of Mankato, Daniel (Susan) Gens of Boone, IA; fifteen grandchildren; fourteen great-grandchildren; eight siblings, Elnora Becker and Lorna Jesse both of Madelia, Lucille Zimmel of Mahnomen, Vern (Pearl) Gens of Mankato, Donna Borneke of Eagle Lake, Betty Wolff of Madison Lake, Robert Gens of Mapleton, and Richard Gens of Good Thunder; brother-in-law, Jim (Joyce) Jennings of Eagle Lake; sister-in-law, Margie Mountain of St. Paul; nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Lyle was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Virginia in 2003; granddaughter, Sarah Gens Klein; three brothers, Rueben, Earl, and Walter Gens; sister, Arlys Jennings.
