Selma Lorine Baumgartner, age 84, of North Mankato, died surrounded by her family Monday, March 14, 2011 at Immanuel " St. Joseph's Hospital in Mankato.
Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Friday, March 18, 2011 at Christ the King Lutheran Church, Mankato. Visitation will be held from 4-7 p.m., Thursday at Mankato Mortuary and will continue one hour before service at church on Friday. Burial will be in Christdala Cemetery, Millersburg, MN. Memorials may be given to Christ the King Lutheran Church or Christdala Cemetery Association.
Selma was born February 22, 1927 to William and Wilhemina (Uellner) Kauffeld in Lutherville, AR. At the age of ten, Selma and her family moved to Costa Mesa, CA. Selma graduated from Newport Beach High School. She met her future husband, Ralph who was serving in the United States Army Air Force. They were united in marriage on May 5, 1946 in Santa Ana, CA. The newlyweds moved to the family farm near Northfield, MN where they raised their four children. They left the farm in 1957 establishing residence in Mankato. Selma was a member of Christ the King Lutheran Church. She enjoyed sewing, cooking, gardening, fishing, and spending time with grandchildren. Her greatest joys in life were her children and grandchildren.
Selma is survived by her husband, Ralph of North Mankato; four children, Ralph "Bud" (Katherine) Baumgartner of St. Paul, Susan (Denny) Douma of St. Cloud, Paul Baumgartner of Prior Lake, and Joyce Baumgartner (Alec Boyce) of Sioux Falls, SD; twelve grandchildren; eleven great-grandchildren; nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Selma was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, William Kauffeld Jr. and Edward Kauffeld.
