Carol Jean "Kipper" Kipp, age 67, of North Mankato, died Thursday, March 10, 2011, surrounded by her loving family at her home following a ten year battle with breast cancer.
Mass of Christian Burial will be 1:00 p.m., Monday, March 14, 2011, at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Mankato, with Rev. John Kunz officiating. Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be 2-5 p.m. on Sunday at North Mankato Mortuary " NORTHVIEW in North Mankato and continues one hour prior to the service at the church on Monday.
Kipper was born on July 28, 1943, in Mankato to Arthur and Elayne (Glynn) O'Brien. She was a 1961 graduate of Waldorf-Pemberton High School. Kipper was united in marriage to James "Digger" Kipp on June 15, 1963 in St. Clair. Over the years, she was employed with EF Johnson in Waseca, Valley News, Palmer Bus Service, and was a bus driver for MRCI. Kipper retired in 2009. She was a member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church and a board member of the Mankato Area Softball Association. Kipper had a passion for sports, especially softball, and was made a member of the Mankato Softball Hall of Fame in 1991 and the MN Softball Hall of Fame in 2004. Her pride and joy was spending time with her grandchildren. Kipper's strong will and dedication to sports and family led her most recently to Hawaii to enjoy the islands and watch her granddaughter play softball for Gustavus.
Kipper is survived by her husband, James "Digger" Kipp; two daughters, Kelly (Tom) Cattrysse and Kristy (John) Stoffel, all of North Mankato; four grandchildren, Danielle and Jake Cattrysse, Tyler and Nathan Stoffel; one brother, Gary (Bonnie) O'Brien of Hohenwald, TN; two sisters, Wendy (Tom) Schroer of Waseca and Laurie (Rick) David of Faribault; brothers- and sisters-in-law who were great caregivers for Kipper, Jerry (Rosie) Kipp of Northfield, Shirley (Bob) Vogelsang of Waldorf, Sharon (Ron) Hanel of Denver, CO, Robert (Sue) Kipp of Waldorf, Denny (Ginger) Kipp of North Mankato, Jan (Marty) Tesch of Waldorf, and Jean Kipp of Waseca; also many nieces, nephews, and friends at MRCI.
She was preceded in death her parents; parents-in-law, Gerald and Ethel Kipp; brother-in-law, Larry Kipp and sister-in-law, Sandy Kipp.
