Leonard George Nelson, age 75 of Madison Lake, died Monday, March 7, 2011, at Immanuel-St. Joseph's Hospital in Mankato.

Mass of Christian Burial will be 11:00 a.m., Saturday, March 12, 2011 at All Saints Catholic Church in Madison Lake, with Rev. Robert Schneider officiating. Interment will be in Calvary All Saints Cemetery. Visitation will be 4-7 p.m. on Friday at Mankato Mortuary and continues one hour prior to the service at the church on Saturday. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to the donor's choice.

Leonard was born on December 5, 1935 in St. Peter. He was the son of Sigfrid and Helen (Prom) Nelson. Leonard was a 1953 graduate of Waterville High School. He served in the U.S. Army from 1958 to 1961. Leonard was employed as a metal fabricator at Continental Can and Jones Metal Products. He retired in 2002. Leonard was a member of All Saints Catholic Church in Madison Lake and a 20 year member of the Madison Lake Fire Department. He enjoyed reading, photography, walking, and working on the family farm.

Leonard is survived by his four sons, Terry (Ann) Nelson of Lakeville, Scott Nelson of North Mankato, Greg Nelson of Mankato, and Dan (Tarin) Nelson of Mankato; two daughters, Renee (Bryan) Schneider of Mankato and Shannon (John) Froehlich of North Mankato; twelve grandchildren, Bridget, Sean, and Ryan Nelson, Nick, Nate, and Matt Nelson, Kayla, Melissa, and Corey Schneider, Cole and Kiera Froehlich, and Tobin Nelson; siblings, Helena Schmidt of Owatonna, Carl (Dolores) Nelson of Sterling, IL, Bob Nelson of Janesville, Paul Nelson of New Brighton, Jim Nelson, Donald Nelson, and Barb (Bob) Lamont, all of Madison Lake; also many nieces, nephews, other family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Kenneth.
