Joan M. Christian passed away Friday afternoon, February 25, 2011 at Laurels Peak after a long battle with Parkinsons.

Services for Joan Mary Christian of Mankato, Minnesota will be held Sunday, February 27 at 2:00 pm at St. John The Baptist Catholic Church in Mankato. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to the Parkinson Foundation, ALS Foundation or Cancer research. After the service, the family invites you to join them for refreshments at the church. Mankato Mortuary is in charge of the arrangements.

Joan M. (Gill) Christian was born December 1, 1918 the only child of John and Anna (Thorcell) Gill in St. Paul, MN. She was united in marriage to Dean Christian on July 7, 1941. They were together for 70 years. For many years, Joan worked as a secretary in the Campus Planning office of Minnesota State (then Mankato State College) University and later in the Theatre Arts Department until her retirement.

She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Anna and sons Keith and Steven.

With Dean, Joan enjoyed camping, travel, hunting, fishing, gardening, knitting, cooking, bridge, bowling, music and her family.

Joan is survived by her husband Dean, daughters-in-law Lana (Keith) and LeeAnn (Steven), four grandchildren - Julie (St. Peter, MN), James (Destin, FL), Stacy (Buffalo Grove, IL), and Miriam (Janesville, MN), 11 great grandchildren and 4 great great grandchildren.
