Helen Mary Kaul, age 88 of Good Thunder was called to her heavenly home on February 23, 2011.
A Funeral Service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, February 27, 2011 at St. John Lutheran Church in Good Thunder, MN with Pastor Rudolph H. Maurer Jr. officiating. Visitation will be from 12 noon to 2 p.m. at the church on Sunday. A Christian burial will be held at a later date in Lyra Cemetery. Arrangements are with the Mankato Mortuary.
Helen was born on December 7, 1922 in Rapidan Township, Blue Earth County to David and Mary Helen (Nelson) Anderson. She was baptized July 14, 1932 at Rapidan, Minnesota and confirmed at Immanuel Lutheran Church of Good Thunder on March 21, 1937. She attended country school in Rapidan and Lyra Townships, and graduated from Good Thunder High School on May 31, 1940 as valedictorian of her class. She married Ervin Kaul on December 12, 1944 at the parsonage of Redeemer Lutheran Church, Decoria Township, Blue Earth County, MN. They had six children prior to Ervin's early death at the age of 49 in 1965.
Helen worked as a telephone operator in Mankato prior to her marriage. She was then a full time wife and mother, and later worked at the Good Thunder Pharmacy, then managed the Happy Dan's store in Good Thunder until her retirement in 1991.
Helen was a beloved mother and grandmother. She devoted her life to her family and raised her children and grandchildren with love and kindness. She loved being surrounded by people and helping them out in any way that she could. She was an active member in her church, St. John Lutheran Church, and in the community, participating in Ladies' Aid, quilting for missions, and Mothers' Club.
Helen is survived by her children, Wayne (Lou Jean) Kaul, Ron (Barb) Kaul, Gayle (Greg) Goettlicher, Mary Sue (Leo) Rosin, Pam (Scott) Shouts, Bob Kaul; and eight grandchildren, Angela (David) Paulsell, Lori Kaul (Tony Kubitz and son Trey), Nikki Kaul, Christin Kaul, Dana (Nathan) Heins, Dan (Kelsey) Goettlicher, Joelle Shouts, Derek Shouts; and four great-grandchildren, Anna, Grace, and Sloane Paulsell and Caden Heins.
Helen was preceded in death by her husband, Ervin; her parents; brothers, Earl Anderson and his wife, Lottie and Edwin Anderson and his wife, Dorothy.
