Jerome "Gus" "Jerry" Stanley Schumacher, age 79, of North Mankato, died peacefully surrounded by his family, Tuesday, February 15, 2011 at Oaklawn Health Care Center, Mankato.

Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, February 19, 2011 at the Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd, North Mankato. Burial will be in Woodland Hills Memorial Park, Mankato. Visitation will be held from 4-6 p.m., with a 5:30 p.m., prayer service, Friday at Mankato Mortuary and will continue one hour before service at church on Saturday. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd, ISJ Hospice, or VINE.

Jerome was born September 8, 1931 to Jacob and Marie (Schnell) Schumacher in Mankato. He graduated from Mankato High School in 1949. Jerry served his country with the U.S. Navy during the Korean War from 1951-1955. He was united in marriage to Doris J. Geak on December 10, 1955 at Our Savior's Lutheran Church, Mankato. Jerry was employed by Wornson-Polzin Dental Lab as a dental technician for over 40 years before retiring. Jerry was a member of the Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd, VFW, AA, and Summit Center. He enjoyed playing pool, golfing, fishing, bowling, watching sports, game shows, and attending MSU sporting events " especially basketball and hockey.

Jerry is survived by his wife, Doris of North Mankato; four children, Linda (Robert) Rippel of Minnesota Lake, Sharon (Steven Prinsen) Schumacher of Annandale, Mark (Stacy) Schumacher of Gainesville, VA, Joann (Scott) Schumacher-Stankey of St. Paul; five grandchildren, Tory Rippel, Trevor and Stephanie Prinsen, Alison and Cory Schumacher; sister, Diane (Charles) Reasner of Mankato; brother-in-law, John Hennessey of Peoria, AZ; sister-in-law, Loretta Sigafus of Mankato; many nieces and nephews, and his dog, Snoopy.

Jerry was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Robert Schumacher; sister, Betty Hennessey; and niece, Laurie Jacobs.
