Howard Roe Chamberlain, age 91, of Mankato, died Tuesday, July 18, 2006 at Immanuel-St. Josephs Hospital, Mankato.
Funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, July 22, 2006 at St. Marks Evangelical Lutheran Church, Mankato, with Rev. Keith Siverly, officiating. Burial will be in Woodland Hills Memorial Park, Mankato. Visitation will be from 9-10:30 a.m. Saturday at church. Memorials may be given to St. Marks Lutheran Church, Cedar Haven, or donors choice. Mankato Mortuary in charge of arrangements.
Howard was born January 25, 1915 to George and Eva B. (Fellows) Chamberlain in rural Mora, Minnesota. Howard moved to the Madelia area in 1925 with his parents and family. Howard served his country in the U.S. Army during WWII from 1941-1945 and was stationed in Hawaii, New Guinea, and the Philippines. He was united in marriage to Leona Urban on June 27, 1943 at St. Johns Lutheran Church, Willow Creek. Howard was self employed as a carpenter for over thirty five years and later worked for National Poly for 11 years. Howard and Leona moved to Cedar Haven Assisted Living in 1997. He was a long time member of St. Marks Evangelical Lutheran Church. Howard enjoyed watching sports on TV, playing cards, and visiting with people.
Howard is survived by nieces and nephews, Marvin (Angie) Wengert, Vera (Don) Holzapfel, Duane (Charlotte) Rogers, Audrey (Gus) Degler, Helen Owens, Ralph (Sue) Jensen, Jeanne (Ron) Traxler, Robert (Myrna) Chamberlain, Gordon (Mary) Chamberlain, Gary (Mary) Chamberlain, George Chamberlain, John (Katie) Chamberlain, Sue Olsem, David (Donna) Asleson, Judy (Brian) Anderson; many great nieces and nephews; six sisters-in-law, Virginia (Chamberlain) Asleson and husband, Allan, Louella Doring, Elvera Wegner, Verona Wilde, Gladys Belgard, Wilma Urban.
Howard was preceded in death by his wife, Leona on October 15, 1999; three sisters and husbands, Norma (Raymond) Wengert, Olive (Ivan) Rogers, Margaret (Ralph) Jensen; three brothers and wives, Paul (Bernice) Chamberlain, George (Irma) Chamberlain, Jason Chamberlain; niece, Lorraine (Wengert) Rivers; six brothers-in-law, Harold Doring, Elvin Wegner, Lorvin Wilde, Harvey Belgard, Bernard Urban, Hartwin Urban.
