Lawrence Frank Rieff, age 81, of North Mankato, died Monday, July 17, 2006 at Immanuel-St. Josephs Hospital in Mankato of an aortic aneurysm.
Mass of Christian Burial 10:30 a.m. Monday, July 24, 2006 at Holy Rosary Catholic Church in North Mankato with Rev. Peter Nosbush officiating. The Garden Angel will be buried with military honors at Calvary Cemetery in Mankato. Visitation will be from 3-6 p.m. Sunday at Mankato Mortuary with a 5:30 p.m. prayer service. Visitation will continue one hour prior to the service at the church on Monday.
Lawrence was born March 21, 1925 in Mankato to Henry and Susan (Dauffenbach) Rieff. He entered the US Army on February 13, 1945 and was honorably discharged in 1946. On July 2, 1952, he married Marilyn Michels at Holy Rosary Catholic Church. Lawrence was a heavy equipment operator for 20 years with RW Carlstrom Construction and for 20 years with the City of North Mankato.
Lawrence was a charter member of Holy Rosary Catholic Church, a life member of VFW Post 950, and a member of Eagles Aerie 269. His hobbies were making sauerkraut, listening to old time music, and being an avid gardener, especially growing potatoes. He enjoyed visiting with friends and relatives, and spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren. He recently enjoyed a family heritage travel to Europe.
Lawrence is survived by wife of 54 years, Marilyn Rieff of North Mankato; eight children, Thomas (June) Rieff of North Mankato, Catherine (Patrick Touhey) Rieff of Mankato, Nicholas (Lorri) Rieff of North Mankato, Ann (Tom Wolf) Rieff of Medina, Mary Jo (Thomas) Moore of Oronoco, Patricia Rieff of Watertown, James Rieff (Darci Michels) of Mankato, Elizabeth (Peter) Goettl of Blanco, TX; nine grandchildren, Valerie and Nicholas Jr. Rieff, Megan (Ryan Nolte) Moore, Brian and Scott Wolf, Katie (John Hentges) Rieff and Ashley Rieff, Nicole and Mitchel Goettl; a great-granddaughter, Ava Hentges; brother, Henry Buck Rieff of Cleveland; sister, Patricia (Ray) Reinbold of Mankato; brothers-in-law, Roy Lukken of California, Roger (Elaine) Michels of North Mankato; many nieces and nephews.
Lawrence was preceded in death by his parents, twin grandsons, Robert and Charles, and three sisters, Catherine, Margaret, and Marcella.
