Jean Rose Herbst, age 81, of Lake Crystal, died Monday, July 10, 2006 at the Lake Crystal Health Care Center.
Funeral service 10:30 a.m. Friday, July 14, 2006 at the First Methodist Church, Lake Crystal with Rev. Debbie King Quale, officiating. Burial will be in Lake Crystal Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4:30 to 7:30 p.m. Thursday at Lake Crystal Mortuary and will continue one hour before service at church on Friday.
Jean the daughter of Henry and Luella (Murphy) Sutherland was born September 5, 1924 in Lake Crystal. She graduated from Lake Crystal High School in 1942 and from Mankato Beauty School. She was united in marriage to Charles A. Herbst on January 30, 1946 at the First United Methodist Church in Lake Crystal. Jean was a lifelong resident of Lake Crystal where she was a farm wife, homemaker, part time cook at Lake Crystal Elementary School and a wedding cake decorator for 25 years. She was a very active member of the First United Methodist Church serving in many capacities, UMW leadership, Ruth Circle, Blue Earth County Fair stand, church committees, and youth leader for many years. She enjoyed cake decorating, craft projects, gardening, traveling, and her grandchildrens activities.
Jean is survived by four children, Marlene (Jack) Baker of Rosemount, Barbara (Ernie) Neilsen of Mankato, Betty Lou (Jim) Peterson of Lake Crystal, John (Gwen) Herbst of Lake Crystal; eight grandchildren, Marcus and Jeff Baker, Michael and Kimberly Neilsen, Matthew (Holly) Peterson, John Paul Peterson, Tony Herbst and fianc, Jenny Davis and Laura Herbst, and one awaited great-grandchild; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Doris Sutherland, Clarence (Dolly) Herbst all of Lake Crystal, Verna Williams, Marion (Bob) Williams, and Esther Moritz all of Mankato; many nieces, nephews, and close friends.
Preceded in death by her parents; husband, Charles on November 8, 2004; brother, John Sutherland.
