Norman Nathan Garman, age 79, of North Mankato, died Wednesday, July 5, 2006 at Mankato House Health Care Center in Mankato.

Memorial service will be 2:30 p.m. Saturday, July 8, 2006 at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in North Mankato, with Rev. Vance Becker officiating. Private burial with military honors will be in St. Johns Cemetery in Rapidan. Visitation will be from 4-7 p.m., Friday, July 7, 2006 at Mankato Mortuary.

Memorials may be given to the Good Shepherd Lutheran Church building or education funds, or to an organization of the donors choice.

Norman was born May 11, 1927 to William and Julia (O Neil) Garman in Reading, PA. He served in the United States Army and was honorably discharged in 1947. Norman was united in marriage to Leona Bartsch on April 25, 1947 at St. Johns Lutheran Church in Rapidan. Norman worked for Minnegasco for more than twenty years as a service technician and locator. He was a member of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in North Mankato and a former member of St. Johns Lutheran Church in Rapidan, where he held many offices. Norman was a former member of the American Legion Post 616 in Good Thunder. He enjoyed traveling, working on cars, and spending time with his family.

Norman is survived by his wife, Leona Garman of North Mankato; his daughter, Julie (Jim) Christensen of Seattle, WA; his son, Richard (Carolyn) Garman of Good Thunder; eight grandchildren, Jason (Patty), Joshua and Jenny Christensen, Jessica (Pat) Dodd, Heidi, Ben (Natalie), Erick (Vanessa), and Jacob (fianc, Heidi Larson) Garman; four great-grandchildren, Joseph Christensen, Aiza Wilson, Aaliyah Wilker, Lucas Garman; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Norman was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, William; and his sister, Leah.
