Oscar A. Seys, age 86, of St. Clair, and formerly of Nicollet, died Tuesday, June 27, 2006 at the VA hospital in Minneapolis.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, June 30, 2006 at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, St. Clair with Rev. Robert Schneider officiating. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, Mankato. Visitation will be held from 4-7 p.m. Thursday at Mankato Mortuary with a 5:30 p.m. prayer service. Visitation will continue one hour prior to the service at church on Friday.

Oscar was born on November 2, 1919 to August and Emma (Quartier) Seys of St. Clair. He was the fourth of nine children and helped his parents grow sugar beets, grain, and raise livestock. Oscar was inducted into the Army and served during WWII from 1941 to 1945 as a member of the Third Division, Tenth Engineers, and was stationed in Africa, Sicily, France, Italy and Germany. Upon his discharge he returned to the United States and married Eileen Renne on April 7, 1947 at Ss. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Mankato. They settled in Nicollet and Oscar attended agriculture school as well as selling seed corn, and raising livestock and grain. With his son Loren taking over the farming operation, Oscar and Eileen moved to New Ulm and bought and managed the Sunset Motel. Later Oscar returned to the farm site in Nicollet and started driving truck for Year-A-Round Cab and Tire Associates. After retiring, Oscar and Eileen moved to St. Clair and spent their winters traveling to Arizona, Texas, and California.

Oscar was a member of the VFW, American Legion, and Immaculate Conception Church in St. Clair. With his love of wildlife, Oscar built a man made lake on the home site in Nicollet. He also enjoyed fishing and playing cards.

He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Eileen Seys of St. Clair; son, Loren Seys and special friend, Judy Smith of St. Peter; daughter, Karen Fischer and fiancé, Jim Dauer of Sleepy Eye; son, Larry Seys and wife, Beth of Aurora; daughter, Vicki and husband, Jim Tischler of Orland Park, IL; daughter, Jeanne Pettis of Courtland; five grandchildren, Katti (Bob) Penkaty, Curtis Fischer, Amber Seys, April Seys, and Amanda Pettis; one great-grandchild, Dylan Hutchings; four brothers, Hector Seys of Mankato, Pete (Ignatia) Seys of Janesville, Jerome (Janice) Seys of Mankato, George (Shirley) Seys of Mankato; sister, Mary Depuydt of North Mankato; many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his two brothers, Henry and Allie; and one sister, Martha.
